Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.04% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 1.62% or 2.20 points to trade at 137.55 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) added 1.50% or 27.50 points to end at 1862.00 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) was up 1.40% or 90.0 points to 6530.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which lost 4.01% or 9.10 points to trade at 217.70 in late trade. Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) declined 3.41% or 12.20 points to end at 345.70 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 2.83% or 24.20 points to 830.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1030 to 1013 and 305 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.23% or 2.95 to $1279.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $54.15 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $62.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.19% to 1.2897, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8817.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 95.980.
