Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 2.79% or 28.00 points to trade at 1031.00 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) added 2.03% or 15.60 points to end at 783.30 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) was up 1.97% or 23.00 points to 1193.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 4.79% or 189.00 points to trade at 3753.00 in late trade. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) declined 4.20% or 39.00 points to end at 890.00 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) shed 3.08% or 42.00 points to 1324.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1075 to 909 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 3.54 to $1277.36 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.10% or 0.57 to hit $52.47 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.53% or 0.88 to trade at $58.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.61% to 1.3117, while EUR/GBP rose 0.75% to 0.8969.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 93.81.
