Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Software & Computer Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 4.81% or 45.20 points to trade at 985.60 at the close. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) added 2.39% or 8.90 points to end at 381.80 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 2.33% or 47.00 points to 2065.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which lost 4.58% or 71.60 points to trade at 1490.40 in late trade. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) declined 3.09% or 23.50 points to end at 737.00 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 2.83% or 5.25 points to 180.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 966 to 946 and 136 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.59% or 21.60 to $1334.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.06% or 0.65 to hit $62.20 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.08 to trade at $65.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.4022, while EUR/GBP fell 0.59% to 0.8809.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 89.50.
