Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Software & Computer Services and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Antofagasta (LONDON:ANTO), which rose 3.46% or 24.75 points to trade at 739.75 at the close. Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) added 2.85% or 30.50 points to end at 1100.50 and London Stock Exchange Group (LONDON:LSE) was up 2.38% or 57.50 points to 2470.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smiths Group (LONDON:SMIN), which lost 2.67% or 31.00 points to trade at 1131.00 in late trade. BG Group (LONDON:BG) declined 2.57% or 22.45 points to end at 850.85 and Barratt Developments Plc (LONDON:BDEV) shed 1.68% or 9.00 points to 527.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1216 to 932 and 352 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.30% or 15.60 to $1185.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.82% or 0.40 to hit $48.47 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.50% or 0.84 to trade at $55.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.69% to 1.4790, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.7314.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.72% at 98.32.
