Ubisoft Entertainment SA (OTC: UBSFF) is set to shut down online services for 10 older video games, causing them to lose their online functionality on Jan. 25, 2024.
This decision is part of a growing trend in the gaming industry, where publishers and developers are discontinuing online services for various reasons, including low player counts and expiring licenses.
In a post on its support site, Ubisoft acknowledged that the decision to decommission online services for these games is not taken "lightly" but is a "necessity" as the technology behind these services becomes outdated.
The affected games and platforms include:
- Assassin’s Creed II (Xbox 360)
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (Mac)
- Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)
- Assassin’s Creed Revelations (PC)
- Ghost Recon Future Soldier (PC), Heroes of Might and Magic VI (PC)
- NCIS (PC)
- Splinter Cell: Conviction (Xbox 360)
- R.U.S.E. (PC)
- Trials Evolution (PC)
It's worth noting that some of these titles had their online services discontinued on various platforms in recent years.
