The FTSE 100 was up 0.06% at 05:15 ET after the blue-chip index closed above 7.500 points for the first time.
The unemployment rate in March came in at 4.6% against a forecast of unchanged at 4.7%.
The claimants count was 19,400 against an estimate of 7,500.
Average earnings were up 2.4% in line with estimates.
Caution was the order of the day globally on reports Trump asked for a FBI probe to be dropped.
That could expose Trump to allegations of obstruction of justice, an impeachable offense.
The pound was up 0.15% at $1.2937 as the yield on the 10-year gilt fell to 1.112% mark.
(LON:Lloyds) was up 2.25% at 71.75 as the U.K. government sold its remaining stake in the bank at a profit.
(LON:British Land) was lower despite the property firm reporting a rise in underlying profits in the year to March.
(LON:EasyJet) remained under pressure after weak first-half to March earnings.
