Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.89% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LONDON:ADML), which rose 3.82% or 56.00 points to trade at 1522.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LONDON:HIK) added 2.58% or 62.00 points to end at 2462.00 and Persimmon PLC (LONDON:PSN) was up 2.45% or 51.00 points to 2135.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which lost 9.74% or 17.15 points to trade at 158.95 in late trade. Weir Group PLC (LONDON:WEIR) declined 5.05% or 72.00 points to end at 1353.00 and Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL) shed 4.38% or 32.50 points to 709.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2107 to 544 and 420 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.01% or 11.30 to $1128.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.10% or 1.77 to hit $41.35 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.19% or 1.55 to trade at $47.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.5648, while EUR/GBP rose 0.38% to 0.7069.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.11% at 96.88.
