Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Mining and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LONDON:RRS), which rose 5.51% or 206.00 points to trade at 3946.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) added 3.41% or 20.50 points to end at 621.00 and Imperial Tobacco Group PLC (LONDON:IMT) was up 1.94% or 66.00 points to 3465.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which lost 9.62% or 10.4900 points to trade at 98.6100 in late trade. Smiths Group PLC (LONDON:SMIN) declined 6.16% or 64.00 points to end at 975.00 and Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL) shed 5.09% or 33.50 points to 624.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1650 to 518 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.85% or 20.90 to $1152.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.72% or 0.32 to hit $44.80 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.42 to trade at $48.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.5250, while EUR/GBP rose 0.56% to 0.7377.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.46% at 95.95.
