Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA), which rose 2.81% or 12.900 points to trade at 472.000 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 2.53% or 86.00 points to end at 3483.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 2.48% or 46.00 points to 1903.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 12.80% or 97.70 points to trade at 665.70 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 8.04% or 13.1000 points to end at 149.8000 and Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN) shed 7.37% or 22.00 points to 276.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1359 to 815 and 413 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.51% or 6.55 to $1289.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.84% or 1.27 to hit $43.51 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.16% or 0.99 to trade at $44.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.84% to 1.4550, while EUR/GBP rose 0.65% to 0.7912.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 92.84.
