Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 5.20% or 20.90 points to trade at 422.70 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 2.36% or 7.90 points to end at 342.30 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 2.05% or 19.000 points to 944.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 4.62% or 171.00 points to trade at 3528.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 3.24% or 17.50 points to end at 523.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 2.87% or 135.50 points to 4583.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1600 to 690 and 397 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.42% or 5.35 to $1268.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.06% or 0.53 to hit $49.43 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.38% or 0.70 to trade at $50.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.35% to 1.2233, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8925.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 98.53.
