Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.28% or 73.00 points to trade at 2298.00 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 1.72% or 9.500 points to end at 561.500 and RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA) was up 1.64% or 7.900 points to 490.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which lost 3.87% or 29.00 points to trade at 719.50 in late trade. British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) declined 2.63% or 20.00 points to end at 740.00 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) shed 2.58% or 5.70 points to 214.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1047 to 1037 and 463 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.05% or 0.65 to $1217.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.99% or 0.49 to hit $49.82 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.24 to trade at $50.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.4517, while EUR/GBP rose 0.84% to 0.7673.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 95.75.
