Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA), which rose 1.57% or 7.100 points to trade at 458.800 at the close. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 1.47% or 3.400 points to end at 234.600 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) was up 1.14% or 18.00 points to 1593.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 10.80% or 59.05 points to trade at 487.45 in late trade. BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) declined 6.54% or 53.40 points to end at 762.80 and Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) shed 6.36% or 15.500 points to 228.100.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1262 to 830 and 446 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.05% or 13.10 to $1232.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.72% or 1.01 to hit $36.17 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.61% or 1.03 to trade at $38.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.00% to 1.4158, while EUR/GBP rose 1.07% to 0.7849.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 96.62.
