Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 2.79% or 84.00 points to trade at 3089.00 at the close. DCC (LON:DCC) added 1.90% or 125.0 points to end at 6705.0 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 1.42% or 13.000 points to 931.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 2.78% or 53.00 points to trade at 1854.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.60% or 28.50 points to end at 1065.50 and Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) shed 2.45% or 60.00 points to 2393.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1174 to 1144 and 444 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.40% or 5.05 to $1262.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.44% or 0.73 to hit $50.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.39% or 0.72 to trade at $51.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.2197, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.8925.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 98.73.
