Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil & Gas Producers and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 4.96% or 51.00 points to trade at 1079.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 3.79% or 5.7500 points to end at 157.3000 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 3.06% or 16.40 points to 552.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 3.37% or 30.50 points to trade at 875.00 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 2.88% or 160.00 points to end at 5400.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) shed 1.83% or 3.60 points to 193.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1367 to 791 and 460 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.63% or 7.80 to $1236.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.68% or 0.26 to hit $38.58 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.40 to trade at $40.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.4388, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.7917.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 94.50.
