Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Media, Aerospace & Defense and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which rose 1.80% or 4.00 points to trade at 225.60 at the close. Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) added 1.75% or 6.500 points to end at 378.500 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) was up 1.58% or 45.00 points to 2885.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 7.95% or 152.00 points to trade at 1759.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.89% or 42.00 points to end at 1413.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.70% or 59.00 points to 2126.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1110 to 836 and 410 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.61% or 7.55 to $1225.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.01% or 0.53 to hit $53.14 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.51 to trade at $55.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.2252, while EUR/GBP rose 0.57% to 0.8616.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 101.90.
