Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Worldpay Group PLC (LON:WPG), which rose 4.84% or 13.20 points to trade at 285.70 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 2.55% or 18.00 points to end at 723.50 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 2.31% or 5.25 points to 232.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 2.30% or 165.00 points to trade at 7000.00 in late trade. Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) declined 2.12% or 5.40 points to end at 248.80 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 1.83% or 22.50 points to 1204.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 982 to 942 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.62% or 7.55 to $1208.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.44% or 1.83 to hit $51.31 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.24% or 1.81 to trade at $54.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.2146, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.8677.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 102.16.
