Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 lost 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tui AG (LONDON:TUIT), which rose 4.31% or 48.00 points to trade at 1162.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LONDON:HIK) added 2.52% or 59.00 points to end at 2400.00 and St. James`s Place PLC (LONDON:SJP) was up 1.87% or 18.00 points to 980.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which lost 2.23% or 3.95 points to trade at 172.85 in late trade. Smiths Group PLC (LONDON:SMIN) declined 1.83% or 22.00 points to end at 1179.00 and Weir Group PLC (LONDON:WEIR) shed 1.61% or 24.00 points to 1462.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1277 to 1270 and 480 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.21% or 2.30 to $1113.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.97% or 0.41 to hit $42.64 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.76% or 0.38 to trade at $49.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.08% to 1.5625, while EUR/GBP fell 0.41% to 0.7112.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 96.60.
