Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Forestry & Paper and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which rose 3.90% or 18.70 points to trade at 497.60 at the close. Taylor Wimpey Plc (LONDON:TW) added 2.67% or 4.70 points to end at 180.40 and 3I Group (LONDON:III) was up 2.59% or 13.00 points to 515.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CRH (LONDON:CRH), which lost 2.86% or 54.00 points to trade at 1837.00 in late trade. St James`S Place (LONDON:SJP) declined 2.29% or 22.00 points to end at 940.50 and Mondi Plc (LONDON:MNDI) shed 1.86% or 25.00 points to 1322.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1331 to 1234 and 465 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.69% or 8.20 to $1180.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.40% or 0.24 to hit $59.15 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.64 to trade at $65.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.93% to 1.5600, while EUR/GBP fell 1.52% to 0.7142.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 95.17.
