Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Electricity and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR), which rose 4.25% or 74.00 points to trade at 1813.00 at the close. ITV Plc (LONDON:ITV) added 2.28% or 5.50 points to end at 246.50 and Hargreaves Lansdown Plc (LONDON:HRGV) was up 1.65% or 19.00 points to 1170.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which lost 5.27% or 255.00 points to trade at 4581.00 in late trade. Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) declined 5.16% or 38.00 points to end at 698.50 and Intu Properties Plc (LONDON:INTUP) shed 3.92% or 14.20 points to 348.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1176 to 864 and 404 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 2.44% or 29.20 to $1167.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 1.71% or 0.87 to hit $49.89 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.33 to trade at $60.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.23% to 1.5054, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.7210.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.35% at 97.70.
