Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Food Producers and Electricity sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LONDON:RBS), which rose 3.02% or 11.10 points to trade at 378.30 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown Plc (LONDON:HRGV) added 2.65% or 30.00 points to end at 1160.00 and Barclays (LONDON:BARC) was up 2.28% or 5.85 points to 262.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which lost 7.75% or 30.00 points to trade at 357.30 in late trade. Shire Plc (LONDON:SHP) declined 2.18% or 115.00 points to end at 5160.00 and Royal Dutch Shell B (LONDON:RDSb) shed 2.09% or 46.00 points to 2159.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1179 to 943 and 354 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.36% or 4.40 to $1208.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 1.05% or 0.52 to hit $50.28 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 3.88% or 2.42 to trade at $60.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.51% to 1.5359, while EUR/GBP rose 0.42% to 0.7278.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 95.51.
