Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Chemicals and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.04% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 7.06% or 116.00 points to trade at 1760.00 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 6.43% or 93.00 points to end at 1540.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 6.05% or 51.50 points to 903.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which lost 3.18% or 20.50 points to trade at 625.00 in late trade. Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) declined 2.72% or 8.700 points to end at 310.800 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) shed 1.43% or 21.00 points to 1453.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1616 to 540 and 409 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 1.36% or 17.90 to $1338.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $48.33 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $49.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.3264, while EUR/GBP rose 0.79% to 0.8400.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 95.70.
