Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Real Estate and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.93% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 7.70% or 9.40 points to trade at 131.50 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 6.90% or 24.100 points to end at 373.200 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 6.43% or 10.200 points to 168.800 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which lost 4.19% or 11.700 points to trade at 267.400 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.40% or 46.00 points to end at 1870.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 1.72% or 8.00 points to 456.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1518 to 582 and 408 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.55% or 7.55 to $1354.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.31% or 0.14 to hit $45.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.22 to trade at $46.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.28% to 1.2942, while EUR/GBP fell 0.44% to 0.8530.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 96.44.
