Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Life Insurance/Assurance and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which rose 3.39% or 7.50 points to trade at 228.85 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 3.09% or 48.00 points to end at 1600.50 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 3.07% or 23.50 points to 788.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 4.77% or 15.50 points to trade at 309.50 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 3.54% or 124.500 points to end at 3390.500 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 3.30% or 45.50 points to 1332.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1261 to 647 and 431 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.14% or 1.75 to $1221.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.41% or 0.22 to hit $53.76 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.27 to trade at $56.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.07% to 1.2515, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.8619.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 99.62.
