Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Media and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SKY PLC (LON:SKYB), which rose 4.13% or 35.00 points to trade at 882.50 at the close. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 4.04% or 56.00 points to end at 1443.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.66% or 65.500 points to 2525.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which lost 3.91% or 9.800 points to trade at 241.000 in late trade. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 3.34% or 16.80 points to end at 486.20 and Worldpay Group PLC (LON:WPG) shed 1.42% or 4.200 points to 292.400.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1460 to 685 and 450 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.40% or 5.35 to $1325.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.97% or 0.88 to hit $45.55 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.28% or 1.06 to trade at $47.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.3008, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8613.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 95.50.
