Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 7.62% or 85.50 points to trade at 1208.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 5.33% or 14.30 points to end at 282.45 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 4.92% or 62.50 points to 1334.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which lost 4.67% or 65.00 points to trade at 1326.00 in late trade. Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) declined 4.64% or 46.00 points to end at 945.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.61% or 48.00 points to 1282.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1527 to 788 and 440 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.22% or 2.70 to $1212.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.43% or 0.69 to hit $47.55 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.65% or 0.32 to trade at $48.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.51% to 1.2428, while EUR/GBP rose 0.55% to 0.8554.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 101.03.
