Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Electrical and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.59% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 2.83% or 9.20 points to trade at 334.40 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) added 2.70% or 38.00 points to end at 1446.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was up 2.38% or 67.00 points to 2877.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which lost 2.29% or 4.60 points to trade at 196.20 in late trade. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) declined 1.77% or 13.00 points to end at 721.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 1.74% or 15.50 points to 874.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1100 to 888 and 407 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.43% or 5.29 to $1221.39 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.42% or 1.57 to hit $47.45 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.12% or 1.52 to trade at $50.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.2931, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8405.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 99.48.
