Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.77% or 43.00 points to trade at 1595.00 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.46% or 114.00 points to end at 4752.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.45% or 78.00 points to 3264.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW), which lost 2.86% or 6.80 points to trade at 230.90 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 2.75% or 19.50 points to end at 691.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 2.38% or 62.00 points to 2539.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1009 to 986 and 409 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.26% or 3.25 to $1257.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.73% or 0.87 to hit $51.11 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.03% or 1.08 to trade at $54.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.2431, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.8577.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 100.50.
