Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Tobacco, Mining and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 3.59% or 10.35 points to trade at 297.14 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 2.23% or 79.00 points to end at 3617.50 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 2.23% or 145.00 points to 6660.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 2.72% or 14.00 points to trade at 501.50 in late trade. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) declined 2.19% or 5.100 points to end at 227.285 and Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) shed 2.08% or 22.00 points to 1035.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1011 to 963 and 431 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.86% or 10.05 to $1183.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.04% or 1.64 to hit $52.35 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 3.01% or 1.72 to trade at $55.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.98% to 1.2163, while EUR/GBP rose 1.40% to 0.8695.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 101.92.
