Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.24% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 5.03% or 72.00 points to trade at 1503.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 3.62% or 250.00 points to end at 7150.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 2.46% or 18.10 points to 752.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 8.23% or 161.00 points to trade at 1795.00 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 5.41% or 11.00 points to end at 192.20 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 4.50% or 14.05 points to 297.85.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1133 to 834 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.40% or 4.88 to $1223.78 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.35% or 0.64 to hit $47.97 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.33% or 0.67 to trade at $50.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.51% to 1.2875, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8440.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 99.53.
