Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Mining and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DCC (LON:DCC), which rose 5.65% or 360.0 points to trade at 6735.0 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 5.24% or 78.00 points to end at 1566.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 4.06% or 290.00 points to 7435.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BP PLC (LON:BP), which lost 4.08% or 19.45 points to trade at 457.10 in late trade. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) declined 2.45% or 69.00 points to end at 2745.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 1.56% or 12.500 points to 791.100.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1167 to 794 and 421 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.29% or 3.55 to $1235.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.85% or 0.98 to hit $52.03 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.47% or 0.82 to trade at $54.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.2497, while EUR/GBP fell 0.72% to 0.8558.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 100.26.
