Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Engineering and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.19% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which rose 2.98% or 17.500 points to trade at 605.062 at the close. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 2.12% or 1.37 points to end at 66.03 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 1.72% or 25.000 points to 1475.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.36% or 47.00 points to trade at 1350.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 2.83% or 190.00 points to end at 6515.00 and Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) shed 1.78% or 17.00 points to 937.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 968 to 795 and 491 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.66% or 7.85 to $1173.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.63% or 0.34 to hit $54.10 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.28 to trade at $57.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.2313, while EUR/GBP rose 0.32% to 0.8568.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 102.04.
