Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO), which rose 5.84% or 27.60 points to trade at 500.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) added 5.04% or 4.4800 points to end at 93.3100 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (L:HIK) was up 4.86% or 95.00 points to 2048.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG), which lost 3.13% or 18.50 points to trade at 573.00 in late trade. Smiths Group PLC (L:SMIN) declined 2.99% or 30.50 points to end at 989.50 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) shed 2.16% or 12.00 points to 543.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1050 to 1043 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.16% or 1.70 to $1066.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.91% or 0.37 to hit $40.30 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.04 to trade at $43.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.02% to 1.5211, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.6992.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 99.83.
