Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 8.08% or 56.30 points to trade at 753.20 at the close. Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) added 7.73% or 87.00 points to end at 1213.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 4.28% or 95.500 points to 2329.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which lost 4.42% or 10.500 points to trade at 227.200 in late trade. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) declined 2.97% or 27.00 points to end at 881.00 and G4S PLC (LON:GFS) shed 2.90% or 5.70 points to 190.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1094 to 946 and 495 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.32% or 16.45 to $1266.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.64% or 0.29 to hit $45.62 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.75% or 0.35 to trade at $47.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.32% to 1.4590, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.7769.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 93.89.
