Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Aerospace & Defense and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which rose 7.12% or 63.00 points to trade at 948.00 at the close. GKN PLC (LON:GKN) added 4.93% or 16.90 points to end at 359.90 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 3.66% or 61.000 points to 1726.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which lost 3.03% or 33.00 points to trade at 1055.00 in late trade. BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) declined 2.11% or 28.00 points to end at 1297.50 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.57% or 120.00 points to 7510.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1017 to 978 and 381 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.17% or 2.15 to $1256.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.41% or 0.76 to hit $53.29 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 0.68 to trade at $55.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.2426, while EUR/GBP rose 0.42% to 0.8545.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 100.91.
