Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Technology Hardware & Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb), which rose 4.28% or 87.00 points to trade at 2118.50 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSa) added 3.95% or 77.00 points to end at 2026.00 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 3.82% or 16.90 points to 459.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 5.92% or 33.00 points to trade at 524.50 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.75% or 34.00 points to end at 1200.00 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 2.67% or 18.00 points to 657.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1173 to 1128 and 470 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.31% or 15.55 to $1175.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 8.49% or 3.84 to hit $49.07 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 8.79% or 4.16 to trade at $51.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.13% to 1.2477, while EUR/GBP fell 0.48% to 0.8484.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.68% at 101.67.
