Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemicals, Industrial Metals & Mining and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG), which rose 3.39% or 18.00 points to trade at 549.00 at the close. Kingfisher (LONDON:KGF) added 3.01% or 10.60 points to end at 363.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LONDON:MRW) was up 3.01% or 5.20 points to 178.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BG Group (LONDON:BG), which lost 0.88% or 9.50 points to trade at 1071.00 in late trade. Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH) declined 0.59% or 8.0 points to end at 1345.0 and National Grid (LONDON:NG) shed 0.48% or 4.10 points to 851.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1976 to 672 and 431 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.15% or 1.70 to $1156.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.70% or 0.37 to hit $53.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.11 to trade at $59.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.12% to 1.5518, while EUR/GBP fell 1.14% to 0.7107.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.87% at 96.79.
