Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.22% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Standard Chartered (LONDON:STAN), which rose 6.49% or 69.50 points to trade at 1141.00 at the close. Petrofac (LONDON:PFC) added 4.92% or 46.00 points to end at 982.00 and Bhp Billiton (LONDON:BLT) was up 3.38% or 52.00 points to 1591.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group (LONDON:BRBY), which lost 2.56% or 48.00 points to trade at 1828.00 in late trade. GKN (LONDON:GKN) declined 2.21% or 8.30 points to end at 367.30 and Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) shed 2.17% or 40.00 points to 1801.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1131 to 1027 and 333 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.17% or 2.00 to $1186.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in May rose 0.39% or 0.18 to hit $46.75 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.06 to trade at $55.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.4930, while EUR/GBP rose 1.11% to 0.7312.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.60% at 97.46.
