Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Gas Water & Multiutilities and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which rose 6.12% or 17.20 points to trade at 298.40 at the close. Centrica Plc (LONDON:CNA) added 4.97% or 11.90 points to end at 251.20 and Petrofac (LONDON:PFC) was up 3.70% or 30.50 points to 855.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta (LONDON:ANTO), which lost 2.83% or 20.00 points to trade at 687.00 in late trade. CRH (LONDON:CRH) declined 2.54% or 44.00 points to end at 1687.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LONDON:MRW) shed 2.19% or 4.50 points to 201.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1078 to 1032 and 352 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.39% or 4.50 to $1148.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in May fell 0.82% or 0.38 to hit $45.75 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.32 to trade at $53.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.57% to 1.4746, while EUR/GBP rose 0.83% to 0.7185.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 99.97.
