Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mobile Telecommunications and Technology Hardware & Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.38% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN), which rose 3.02% or 8.55 points to trade at 292.10 at the close. Standard Life Plc (LONDON:SL) added 2.72% or 11.10 points to end at 419.60 and Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) was up 2.63% or 49.00 points to 1911.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG), which lost 2.31% or 13.00 points to trade at 551.00 in late trade. Carnival (LONDON:CCL) declined 2.28% or 67.00 points to end at 2875.00 and Centrica Plc (LONDON:CNA) shed 1.95% or 5.00 points to 252.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1190 to 841 and 400 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.07% or 0.80 to $1208.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $51.81 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.45 to trade at $60.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.25% to 1.5375, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.7390.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 94.47.
