Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 1.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Intertek Group (LONDON:ITRK), which rose 6.54% or 149.00 points to trade at 2429.00 at the close. Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) added 6.42% or 16.25 points to end at 269.35 and Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) was up 5.54% or 96.00 points to 1830.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aberdeen Asset Management Plc (LONDON:ADN), which lost 3.43% or 15.10 points to trade at 425.00 in late trade. Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT) declined 1.44% or 45.00 points to end at 3085.00 and Sabmiller (LONDON:SAB) shed 1.42% or 51.50 points to 3574.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1415 to 683 and 384 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.31% or 16.70 to $1260.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 2.76% or 1.37 to hit $50.94 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 2.66% or 1.46 to trade at $56.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.60% to 1.5134, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.7577.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.95% at 93.91.
