Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Technology Hardware & Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which rose 3.68% or 7.900 points to trade at 222.600 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.63% or 31.10 points to end at 888.70 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 3.23% or 11.90 points to 380.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 2.80% or 34.00 points to trade at 1182.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.42% or 26.00 points to end at 1049.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.13% or 46.00 points to 2113.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1244 to 912 and 460 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.01% or 13.35 to $1331.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.61% or 1.15 to hit $45.20 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 0.91 to trade at $46.79 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.10% to 1.2976, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.8601.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 95.76.
