Proactive Investors - Tesla has agreed to settle a lawsuit over a fatal car crash just a week before litigation was due to start in California.
Walter Huang was killed in 2018 after his Tesla Model X hit a highway barrier when in Autopilot model.
Up to now, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) had said Huang was at fault because he was playing a video game just before the accident.
Tesla watchers said said if the trial had gone ahead it would have exposed Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems to a full public examination at a time when it faces other cases involving crashes involving its technology
US agency the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has examined almost 1,000 crashes where Autopilot was said to have been in operation.
No details about the settlement with HUang's family were released.
Tesla's shares have lost almost a third of their value since the start of this year as it has come under pressure from an upsurge in production from Chinese rivals.
Recently it announced sales had fallen for the first time in four years.
