Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the , Trading & Consumer Goods and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted declined 0.58% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Sino Horizon (TW:2923), which rose 9.96% or 2.40 points to trade at 26.50 at the close. Leadtek (TW:2465) added 9.91% or 1.10 points to end at 12.20 and Hong Yi Fiber (TW:1452) was up 9.91% or 2.75 points to 30.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Min Aik (TW:3060), which lost 9.93% or 7.60 points to trade at 68.90 in late trade. Cvilux (TW:8103) declined 8.96% or 3.70 points to end at 37.60 and Gemtek Tech (TW:4906) shed 7.61% or 1.45 points to 17.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 585 to 258 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 1.55% or 0.80 to $52.45 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 1.19% or 0.68 to hit $57.73 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.10% or 1.20 to trade at $1162.30 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.65% to 31.018, while TWD/CNY rose 0.20% to 0.2017.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 96.30.
