Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Trading & Consumer Goods, Electricity and Semiconductor sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Jye Tai (TW:6165), which rose 10.00% or 0.63 points to trade at 6.30 at the close. Young Optics (TW:3504) added 10.00% or 3.05 points to end at 33.55 and Vivotek (TW:3454) was up 9.89% or 6.90 points to 76.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walton Chainte (TW:2425), which lost 9.85% or 1.95 points to trade at 17.85 in late trade. Chilisin Elec (TW:2456) declined 9.19% or 4.25 points to end at 42.00 and Tpk Holding (TW:3673) shed 8.75% or 11.50 points to 120.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 651 to 194 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.09% or 0.04 to $48.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.22% or 0.12 to hit $53.50 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.73% or 8.00 to trade at $1085.30 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.04% to 31.505, while TWD/CNY fell 0.31% to 0.1959.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 97.48.
