Investing.com – Singapore equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Utilities, Basic Materials and Real Estate Holdings & Development sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Singapore, the Singapore Straits Time lost 1.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Singapore Straits Time were Thai Beverage Public Co Ltd (SIN:TBEV), which rose 0.66% or 0.005 points to trade at 0.765 at the close. Jardine Cycle & Carriage Ltd (SIN:JCYC) added 0.57% or 0.17 points to end at 30.05 and Singapore Press Hldgs Ltd (SIN:SPRM) was up 0.25% or 0.01 points to 4.07 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hongkong Land Holdings Limited (SIN:HKLD), which lost 4.70% or 0.38 points to trade at 7.70 in late trade. Jardine Matheson Hldgs Ltd (SIN:JARD) declined 4.24% or 2.35 points to end at 53.10 and Capitaland Limited (SIN:CATL) shed 3.97% or 0.14 points to 3.39.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 383 to 86 and 37 ended unchanged on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.79% or 0.41 to $52.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 1.06% or 0.60 to hit $57.45 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.05% or 0.60 to trade at $1153.20 a troy ounce.
USD/SGD was up 0.03% to 1.3544, while EUR/SGD rose 0.23% to 1.4945.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 96.63.
