Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Basic Resources and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite rose 2.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were National Bank of Greece (AT:NBGr), which rose 12.50% or 0.03 points to trade at 0.27 at the close. Select Textile (AT:EPIr) added 10.00% or 0.014 points to end at 0.154 and Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr) was up 9.50% or 0.019 points to 0.219 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Iktinos Hellas (AT:IKTr), which lost 4.03% or 0.0320 points to trade at 0.7620 in late trade. Creta Plastics (AT:PLAKR) declined 3.09% or 0.160 points to end at 5.020 and FHL I Kiriakidis Marbles and Granites SA (AT:KRKr) shed 2.76% or 0.090 points to 3.170.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 64 to 43 and 15 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.16% or 14.05 to $1196.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $53.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.17 to trade at $55.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.06% to 1.0737, while EUR/GBP fell 0.61% to 0.8518.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 100.09.
