Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX lost 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Ahold Kon (AS:AHLN), which rose 1.69% or 0.34 points to trade at 20.46 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell A (AS:RDSa) added 0.65% or 0.16 points to end at 24.84 and Unilever NV (AS:UNc) was up 0.21% or 0.09 points to 42.14 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aegon (AS:AEGN), which lost 8.27% or 0.287 points to trade at 3.182 in late trade. SBM Offshore (AS:SBMO) declined 6.20% or 0.66 points to end at 9.91 and Randstad (AS:RAND) shed 5.22% or 1.84 points to 33.38.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 138 to 28 and 8 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 5.42% to 23.53.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 4.47% or 2.19 to $46.80 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 4.25% or 2.13 to hit $47.97 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 1.27% or 17.05 to trade at $1356.05 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 0.56% to 1.1092, while EUR/GBP rose 1.29% to 0.8499.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.49% at 96.08.
