Benzinga - by AJ Fabino, Benzinga Staff Writer.
Week 17 of Benzinga’s “Is ChatGPT A Better Financial Advisor?” series is here, and the results keep getting more intriguing.
If you’ve been following, you know that Benzinga gave ChatGPT a hypothetical $10,000 to put together an investment portfolio to face off against some of Wall Street’s most prominent funds.
So, what did the scoreboard show this week? Let’s take a look.
Fund/ETF | 17-Week Performance |
SPDR S&P 500 | +9.16% |
Invesco QQQ Trust | +15.7% |
Schwab Total Stock Market Index Fund | +9.34% |
Vanguard Growth Index Fund | +13.47% |
Vanguard Value Index Fund | +4.79% |
iShares MSCI EAFE ETF | -2.12% |
Vanguard Total International Bond Index Fund | -0.62% |
Fidelity Contrafund | +12.3% |
T. Rowe Price Growth Stock Fund | +12.86% |
Fidelity Total Market Index Fund | +9.35% |
ChatGPT | 17-Week Performance |
Benzinga’s ChatGPT Portfolio | +8.77% |
ChatGPT’s portfolio is losing ground, now the seventh-best performer out of the funds we stacked it against when the series began back in May.
With just nine weeks left of the six-month series, the stocks in our hypothetical portfolio have a lot of work to do to catch up to stalwarts like the tech-heavy Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 (NASDAQ:QQQ), and the broad market SDPR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:SPY).
Spotlight: The star of the Benzinga portfolio remained Adobe Inc (NASDAQ:ADBE), with Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) just behind it. On the flip side, Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) managed to pare losses slightly, now down by 12.41%.
As Benzinga emphasized before, this is a marathon, not a sprint. All positions will remain untouched through the experiment to get a holistic view of the performance.
So, what’s the takeaway here? It's too early to tell — but we'd like to note that the ChatGPT portfolio has been pulling back for the last four weeks.
