Proactive Investors - Accountancy giant KPMG has confirmed it is employing released prisoners as part of a government initiative to reduce reoffending rates.
KPMG said the posts were in a variety of white-collar areas including its technology department.
Ministers have urged firms to employ convicted prisoners in a bid both to reduce overcrowding in prison and also to help former convicts rehabilitate into society.
Ministry of Justice statistics suggest reoffending rates drop by 10% if released prisoners can find full-time employment.
Jon Holt, chief executive of KPMG UK, said: “Our longstanding focus on social mobility is about giving everyone – regardless of their background – the chance to succeed. I believe reformed prison leavers should be no exception.”
The Justice Ministry added that employers of former prisoners in most cases reported they were motivated, trustworthy and had good attendance.
