Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Warehousing and Railway & Bus sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:5901), which rose 8.63% or 175.0 points to trade at 2202.0 at the close. Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. (T:4151) added 6.26% or 106.0 points to end at 1799.0 and Toyobo Co., Ltd. (T:3101) was up 5.26% or 8.0 points to 160.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5714), which lost 18.54% or 145.0 points to trade at 637.0 in late trade. Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5201) declined 12.73% or 91.0 points to end at 624.0 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) shed 8.57% or 109.0 points to 1162.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1431 to 394 and 65 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 11.15% to 32.76.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.89% or 0.28 to $31.16 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.88% or 0.30 to hit $34.36 a barrel, while the April Gold contract rose 0.75% or 8.70 to trade at $1166.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.48% to 117.44, while EUR/JPY rose 0.39% to 130.84.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 97.12.
